Emergency Township Assistance Application
Beverly Rivera: The Washington Township Trustee
Our township clerk is Lori Garringer.
Duties of the Trustee
A Township Trustee is an elected official in the local government of the U.S. state of Indiana. A township trustee administers a township, which is a political subdivision of a county, and in common with most other state officials serves a term of four years.
Our township trustee will work with The City of Greensburg and Greensburg Fire Department to provide fire protection to all areas of the township. The trustee can assist those in needs by distributing relief and connecting residents to helpful resources when necessary. The Trustee is responsible for submitting an annual budget, paying and recording all financial guidelines according to Indiana Code, and presenting an annual report.
Other duties of the trustee include upkeep and maintenance of township owned cemeteries, management of any properties owned by the township, settle disputes among neighbors concerning fence lines and overgrown grass, brush or other vegetation.
Washington Township is one of nine townships in Decatur County, Indiana, and covers an area of 55.24 square miles.
Board Members
The trustee is assisted by a three-member Township Board whose members are elected to four-year terms. Duties of the board include adopting the annual budget, serving as a board of finance and approving township contracts. In January of each year, the trustee presents to the board an annual report showing the receipts, expenditures, investments, and debts of the township. The approved report is then published in local papers for public inspection.
